FAQ
A quick explanation of how Tempelo works, how clothing advice is generated, how personalized clothing advice works, what Ride Commute does, and how route import via Strava and RideWithGPS works.
Contents
Which pages are there?
Back to topRide Now (up to ~6 hours): weather + clothing advice starting now.
Ride Later (up to ~6 hours): pick a date/time and get weather + advice from that moment.
Ride Route: weather is shown along your route — not just the weather at home, but the weather where you are at that time.
Ride Commute: weather and clothing advice for your planned commutes. You can set up a single outbound ride, return ride, or a complete workday.
In Ride Route, you can use a route via GPX upload or by importing a route from Strava or RideWithGPS.
What does Best start time do in Ride Later?
Back to topBest start time helps you choose when to leave if your start time is flexible. Tempelo compares start times within your search window based on dryness, wind and feels-like temperature.
You can choose what Tempelo should focus on: best balance, driest ride, least wind or warmest feel. You can then apply the recommended time or an alternative in Ride Later.
Account & sign-in
Back to topAn account is optional, but you do need it for features such as personalized clothing advice, Ride Commute, and connecting Strava or RideWithGPS.
Sign-in uses a magic link sent to your email. No password needed.
Security: the login link only works on the same device/browser where you requested it (device/browser-bound).
Deleting your account and data
Back to topIf you are signed in, you can permanently delete your account and all associated stored data yourself from the Account page.
This is a deliberate action with an extra confirmation step, so it cannot easily happen by accident.
Warning: this cannot be undone.
How does personalized clothing advice work?
Back to topTempelo uses three layers to make clothing advice more personal. First, there is the standard advice based on weather, feels-like temperature, wind, rain, ride intensity, and ride context.
Then Tempelo can learn from your feedback per body area, such as head/neck, upper body, hands, legs, and feet. Over time, this can make your advice slightly warmer or lighter where needed.
You can also use My wardrobe to link your own clothing items to Tempelo zones. If there is a match for a body area and zone, Tempelo shows your own kit. Where you have not added anything yet, Tempelo fills in with standard advice.
Want the full explanation? Go to Personalized clothing advice.
What is My wardrobe?
Back to topMy wardrobe is where you can add your own cycling kit. You link each item to a body area and to one or more Tempelo zones.
Tempelo uses that information to make advice more recognizable. Instead of only showing standard items, it can show your own gloves, jersey, or jacket when they match the conditions.
What are Tempelo zones?
Back to topTempelo zones are the fixed advice zones Tempelo uses for clothing advice, such as freezing, very cold, cold, cool, mild, warm, and hot.
These zones are not based on air temperature alone. Tempelo looks at how the ride feels, including feels-like temperature, wind, rain, and ride intensity.
What happens if my wardrobe is not complete?
Back to topThat is fine. You do not need to fill your entire wardrobe before using it.
If Tempelo does not find one of your own items for a body area and zone, it simply uses the standard advice. That means you can start small and add more items later.
Does Tempelo learn from feedback per clothing item?
Back to topNo, feedback currently works per body area, not per specific clothing item.
If you say your hands were too cold, Tempelo can tune the advice for hands warmer. It does not learn that one specific pair of gloves was right or wrong.
Can I set my own temperature zones?
Back to topNot yet. Tempelo currently uses fixed Tempelo zones.
You can link your own clothing items to those zones. Custom temperature ranges or personal zone bands fit a later expansion.
What is Ride Commute?
Back to topRide Commute helps you with weather and clothing advice for your planned commutes.
You always start through one wizard. There you choose whether you want to set up an outbound ride, return ride, or a complete workday.
A workday is one setup that combines your outbound and return ride, including one combined email.
Want the full explanation? Go to Ride Commute.
What is the difference between a single commute and a workday?
Back to topA single commute is for one recurring ride: for example only your outbound ride or only your return ride.
A workday is for combining outbound and return in one setup.
Choose a single commute if you want to plan one ride separately. Choose a workday if you want one combined overview and one combined email for that day.
When will I receive a Ride Commute email?
Back to topFor every commute, you choose when you want to receive the email.
So instead of a fixed default rule, you choose a specific time that suits you.
For a workday, this is one combined email before your outbound ride. In that email, you first see the advice for outbound and then for return.
Can I select multiple weekdays at once?
Back to topYes. For a single commute, you can select multiple weekdays at once, for example Mon/Tue/Thu.
For a workday, you can also select multiple weekdays at once.
This lets you use one setup for recurring rides on multiple days without having to enter everything again.
Login link doesn’t work (device-bound)
Back to topThe login link is bound to the device + browser where you requested it. This helps prevent misuse.
Common causes:
• Request on phone, open on laptop (or the other way around)
• Request in Safari, open in Chrome (or vice versa)
• Request in a normal window, open in incognito/private

Fix:
• Open Tempelo on the device/browser where you want to be signed in
• Request a new login link there
• Open your email and click the link on that same device/browser

Connect Strava (routes only)
Back to topTempelo uses Strava only for routes (no activities, no segments).
Flow:
• Sign in to Tempelo
• Go to Settings → Integrations → Strava
• Connect Strava and authorize
• Then open Ride Route to view and import a route
• Sign in to Tempelo
• Go to Settings → Integrations → Strava
• Connect Strava and authorize
• Then open Ride Route to view and import a route
On import, we fetch the route (polyline) and convert it into route points so you can use it in Tempelo.
You can disconnect any time via Settings → Integrations. We delete the connection and attempt to revoke the token at Strava (best effort).
Connect RideWithGPS (routes only)
Back to topTempelo uses RideWithGPS only for routes.
Flow:
• Sign in to Tempelo
• Go to Settings → Integrations → RideWithGPS
• Connect RideWithGPS and authorize
• Then open Ride Route to view and import a route
• Sign in to Tempelo
• Go to Settings → Integrations → RideWithGPS
• Connect RideWithGPS and authorize
• Then open Ride Route to view and import a route
On import, we fetch the route points and convert them into Tempelo’s internal route format so you can use them in Setup, Forecast, and sharing.
You can disconnect any time via Settings → Integrations.
Choosing a location
Back to topYou can pick a location in three ways:
• Typing: once you type 3+ characters, a dropdown appears automatically. Click a result to select it.
• GPS (crosshair icon): use your current location. If you allow it, we fill the location automatically.
• Suggestions: when you click into the field, you’ll see suggestions such as Last and Recent so you can quickly reuse locations.
• GPS (crosshair icon): use your current location. If you allow it, we fill the location automatically.
• Suggestions: when you click into the field, you’ll see suggestions such as Last and Recent so you can quickly reuse locations.
If a location is already filled and you click the field, the text is automatically selected. This makes it quick to overwrite by typing (iOS-style).
We sort dropdown results smartly (this is a bias, not a filter):
• strong text match (exact/starts with)
• nearby if Near me is enabled (GPS), otherwise a slight preference for your home country (NL)
• previously chosen locations (recents)
• larger/more important places as a final tie-breaker
• strong text match (exact/starts with)
• nearby if Near me is enabled (GPS), otherwise a slight preference for your home country (NL)
• previously chosen locations (recents)
• larger/more important places as a final tie-breaker
Tip: if you get many matches (for example Valencia), add a country or region such as Valencia Spain or Valencia, Venezuela.
Last location & recents
Back to topWhen you select a location (via dropdown or GPS), we save it as your last used location and add it to Recent.
This is purely for convenience: next time you visit, you can quickly pick the same places again, and if it is still recent, the last used location can be suggested or autofilled.
This is stored locally in your browser on the device you use. No account is required.
You can clear the current selection using the X icon in the location field.
Where does the weather come from?
Back to topWe fetch the forecast via Open-Meteo.
Open-Meteo acts as an aggregator: depending on the region, Open-Meteo can use different forecast models or sources (best match).
For the Netherlands/Benelux and much of Europe, we use an overlay for the first ~60 hours based on KNMI/HARMONIE (seamless via Open-Meteo). Beyond that, we automatically switch back to Open-Meteo Auto (best match).
Below the table you’ll see a Model label showing which model or source route was used for this forecast. Tap the ? icon for the detailed explanation.
Temperature vs feels-like
Back to top• Feels-like in the table is the feels-like temperature returned by the weather API.
• The clothing advice uses an effective temperature: API feels-like + adjustments for wind, rain, and ride intensity.
• The clothing advice uses an effective temperature: API feels-like + adjustments for wind, rain, and ride intensity.
Wind & rain
Back to topYes. With more wind and/or rain, the effective temperature drops, so the advice shifts sooner towards dressing warmer.
Note: this is meant as a practical guideline. Local conditions such as sun, shade, route profile, and stop time can have a big impact.
Ride intensity
Back to topWith Easy / Neutral / Intense, you shift the clothing advice based on how demanding the ride feels. This only affects the clothing advice, not the forecast itself.
Overall advice
Back to topOverall advice is based on the coldest moment within the selected period or ride, so you are prepared for the most critical hour.
Coldest moment
Back to topBecause we mainly look at how cold it feels (feels-like + adjustments). Wind and rain can make one hour feel colder, even if the actual temperature is slightly higher.
Sharing
Back to topRide Now and Ride Later: when you share, we only put parameters in the URL, for example lat/lon/name, and for Ride Later also startLocal. The recipient sees the same page with the same chosen values.
Ride Route (GPX/Strava/RideWithGPS) is different: a full route is too large for URL-only parameters. So we temporarily store the route, including simplified points and optionally the original GPX, so the recipient can open it via a shareId.
Note: separately from sharing, Tempelo may remember your last used location locally in your browser for convenience. This is not part of the share link and is not stored on the server.
Downloading the GPX
Back to topFor a shared Ride Route, a Download GPX option may be available. This depends on how the link was created:
• Available: if the original sender shared the route from an uploaded GPX, because the original GPX was stored along with it.
• Not available: if the original sender shared a route from Strava or RideWithGPS, or if the original GPX was not stored.
• Not available: if the original sender shared a route from Strava or RideWithGPS, or if the original GPX was not stored.
Shared routes have a limited retention period. After that, the link can expire and downloading or opening may no longer be possible.
Per-hour advice
Back to topIn Ride Now, Ride Later, and Ride Route, you can tap or click a row in the table to see the clothing advice for that specific moment.
Map markers
Back to topIn Ride Route, you’ll see map markers along your route.
Tap or click a marker to open the weather and clothing advice for that moment.
